Tips on Saving  Energy $ $ $ $'s

Look for the Energy Star Logo

Public recognition and and knowledge of energy efficient technologies continues to grow in the Northwest and the product line continues to grow under the Energy Star Home Products Program. Besides the Resource-Efficient Clothes Washers, the Home Products Program includes 46 models of Energy Star qualified refrigerators, and many other types of home appliances. Did you know that a 10 year old standard refrigerator uses as much as 2 Energy Star labeled refrigerators?

Americans spend over a billion dollars each year to power their VCR's and TV's when they are switched off. An Energy Star labeled TV consumes up to 75% less energy than conventional models when switched off -or less than 3 watts and an Energy Star labeled VCR comes up to 70% less than conventional models when switched off. So when replacing your worn out appliances, large or small, be sure to look for the Energy Star logo to save energy, and over time, money too! You can receive more product information at their website   http://www.energystar.org or just click on their logo at Vera's website to link to their website.

Energy Saving Booklets!

We still have some books left - Call our office @ 924-3800 to request one.

The easy answer is to use less power, which also happens to be the tough answer. We have asked, and our customers have responded with great conservation efforts over the last year. This was one of the key factors in keeping the rate increase as low as it was. Areas where more conservation remain are becoming harder to find and more expensive to implement. One of the most effective methods was the conversion of incandescent lights to compact fluorescent. The coupon program this summer was very effective. There will be another coupon mailing and program available this fall to help offset the cost of these bulbs.

Many other suggestions are included in the 88 Ways to Save booklet that was mailed to all of our customers. If yours was not delivered, give us a call at 924-3800. We have a few extras available. We still offer free energy audits of homes and businesses within the District. If you are interested, please call our office for an appointment.

Many other energy savings ideas are available from different sources. Some of these can be accessed through links on this website (www.verawaterandpower.com) or BPA's site at www.bpa.gov. If you have any other questions or need further information about energy conservation, you can always call our office at 924-3800.

                   People Power

Customers - Join Your Own Organization to be Heard through
People Power

Vera customers are eagerly encouraged to join the new grassroots movement sponsored by the consumer-owned non-profit utilities of the Northwest. Consumer-owned utilities are united behind one goal - to provide affordable, reliable non-profit electricity to you, the consumer. Your energy comes to you through Vera Water and Power who is a preference customer of Bonneville Power Administration. By joining the grassroots organization, People Power, you will support the effort to keep your rates affordable and available here in the Northwest. Outside interests want more of our supply of federal hydropower which comes to us from the Columbia River system through BPA. By joining in People Power, you will learn more about the benefits you receive from the Columbia River system and the issues facing your non-profit utility, Vera.
